Understanding Acupuncture
Acupuncture is practiced in a variety of ways all around the world with unique techniques stemming from many countries such as China, Japan, Korea and France. It should be mentioned that acupuncture and dry needling differ in many aspects. More recently, other industries are employing the use of dry needling as a method to treat musculoskeletal pain. Acupuncture theory focuses on the physical, internal and emotional aspects of the person’s health.

An acupuncture consultation may incorporate a variety of methods during treatment. The use of moxa is sometimes applied to add heat to the body to encourage healing. Electroacupuncture passes a gentle current through the acupuncture needles and may lead to the contraction and relaxation of the muscle. Practitioners will often stimulate the acupuncture needle through gentle rotations to strengthen the effect of the point being used.
Chinese medicine should always be practiced by a qualified practitioner who is registered with AHPRA for optimal safety.
